About North Frisian
North Frisian is spoken on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany and on the islands of Sylt, Föhr, Amrum and Heligoland. Only about 8,000 to 10,000 people speak it, spread across around ten quite different dialects. It is a recognised minority language in Germany, and UNESCO classes it as severely endangered.
