About Scots
Scots is a Germanic language closely related to English, spoken across Lowland Scotland and, as Ulster Scots, in Northern Ireland. About 1.5 million people in Scotland reported being able to speak it in the census. It is recognised under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages and is the language of much of Robert Burns' poetry.
